ALL THE PLACES I HAVE LIVED - Phase I

“All the places I have lived” explores the concept of home from the perspective of a Western migrant to Asia. Myself. I moved to Vietnam in my early twenties and have spent the last 15 years in its Southern metropolis Ho Chi Minh City.
In this Series I revisit the different neighborhoods I have lived in during the past one and a half decades. Feeling at home in the city yet never fully a part of Vietnamese society I find myself in a third space.
Using Artificial Intelligence as a tool I creates false memories of my migrant life stations by training AI models based on my own photographs and re-imagining the neighborhoods that became a part of my biography.
The falseness of these memories can be discovered throughout the series. Sometimes it is a false shadow or impossible light direction, that gives it away, sometimes a glitch or a fake sky, or what looks like writing on signs at first but appears nothing but gibberish when examined up close.
The memories of home evoke bitter-sweet nostalgia. But they are not true.
